Two men, a soap wrapper, and a question.
Where it began
It started with the back of a wrapper.
Two men read the back of a soap wrapper and didn’t like what it said. One of them, David Rosati, had spent twenty years reading contracts for a living and knew what a list looks like when nobody expects you to read it. The other, Daniel Hunter, had spent as long formulating soap and knew exactly why the list looked the way it did.
The question between them was simple. Why does every bar on the shelf come out at pH 9–10 when skin sits at 4.5–5.5? The answer was that saponification makes it so, and nobody had gone to the trouble of building a bar for men that didn’t. So they did. The Brick is formulated inside your skin’s own range, all-natural, and it cleans without leaving you feeling pulled tight afterwards.
The founders
A lawyer and a soap maker.
David Rosati comes from law and business: twenty years of contracts, acquisitions and real estate, making sure other people’s deals didn’t fall apart. At The Brick he handles the parts that keep a company honest, the contracts, the compliance and the numbers, and he is the one who asks whether a claim on the box can be backed up.
Daniel Hunter is Director of Product Development at Hunter Amenities International, a global manufacturer of soaps, shampoos and personal-care products with more than forty years in the trade and GMP, ISO 22716 and RSPO certifications. He has put hundreds of products into hotels and stores, and he formulated The Brick with the laboratory team that makes it. That affiliation is why a two-man company ships a bar built to a standard most start-ups never reach.
